What if I redesign investing.com?

HišŸ‘‹šŸ» Iā€™m JuYoung,
a digital product designer

OVERVIEW

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the younger generation of new stock investors has increased globally. Thanks to that, the number of MTS downloads has increased significantly. I also started investing in stocks when COVID-19 occurred and downloaded and used numerous MTS. Among many MTS, I often use Investing.com to check stock prices and get information. I suggested an improved service for the inconvenience I felt while using this service.

TARGET USER

- Investors who are investing in stocks for the first time using stock apps
- New investors with no investment experience
- Investors who want to invest in stocks but feel that stock apps are difficult

INVESTERS SURVEY

In order to set the correct direction, I asked people around me who started investing in stocks about their experiences.

PROBLEM &
WHATĀ IF...?

I found problems on Investing.com and thought what if I could improve them like these.

1. Not user friendly

The first time I used investing.com, it took a lot of time to get used to the UI. Because everything was unfamiliar and challenging, I thought it would be nice to have a UI to check my investment information more intuitively.

šŸ‘‰ What if i can check my investment information intuitively? Ā Moreover, what if there is a little fun in this intuitive UI?

2. uncomfortable 2 steps

I use investing.com primarily to check my watchlist. Because my watchlist contains a list of stocks I am interested in and have invested in. To check my watchlist, I have to click the watchlist icon in the menu bar. It was inconvenient to go through two steps to check the watchlist every time.

šŸ‘‰ What if I could see my watchlist on the main screen as soon as I access investing.com?

investing in stocks could be transformed into a bit of friendliness.

SOLUTION

I added a bit of fun to investing.com and improved it in a more intuitive and user-friendly direction. I tried to improve the discomfort I felt at investing.com and the discomfort that other investors felt when using MTS. Also, I analyzed the UI and UX of MTS, such as Webull, Robinhood, Trade Republic, and Coinbase, to gain insights on investing.com renewal.

1. INTUITIVEĀ & FUN UI
: How is the investment weather today?

If my stock is positive, the sun rises, and if my stock is negative, clouds rise. I thought that if users could intuitively check investment information, just like checking the weather, the difficulty of investing in stocks could be transformed into a bit of friendliness.

2. INTUITIVEĀ & FUN UI
: Check out my projected returns!

Backtesting is simulation using historical data. I thought that if I could compare and predict my expected return after 1 year, 3 years, or 10 years later, it would be a little fun and helpful to invest in stocks.

3. TWO STEPS ā†’ ONEĀ STEPS
: Check the stocks you own right on the home screen!

To intuitively check the stocks I own, I moved the watch list on the home screen. Instead, the market indices, which was previously on the home screen, was moved to the market menu on the bottom menu bar. On the home screen, users can check the graph of the stock groups and the percentage of stocks they own.

4. TWO STEPS ā†’ ONEĀ STEPS
: Add or remove stocks you own directly from the home screen!

Users can add or remove stocks they own through their stock groups in lists on the home screen.

STYLEĀ GUIDE &
DARKĀ THEME

A style guide and a grid system were created for the uniformity of the UI.
By designing a dark theme, i experimented with how each UI element reacts to a dark background.
